Painting stucco, damp curing.

Hello! I have been contracted to paint a mural on the side of a newly stuccoed pub. I have never painted on stucco. I read about fogging and allowing it to cure for about 15-28 days. I plan to use a masonry primer. Is there anything else that you could recommend? How soon after it is stuccoed can it be hosed down with water? I have also heard of a "special wash" that can be used to clean up the stucco. Is block filler a primer or would the primer be sufficient to fill small crevices? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!

Use a masonry primer and a masonry paint and everything will be just fine. Masonry primer can be tinted with your finish color also.
Since this is new stucco, you can just paint it with no additional preparation.
Damp curing is done after the brown coat, and sometimes after the scratch coat, never after. It is possible people used to damp cure the finish back in the old days when they used a lime and sand finish coat. Lime takes days to set up, so wetting the wall down was necessary in hot weather to avoid or reduce shrinkage cracks.
Damp curing is a subject I wanted to avoid, because I rarely do it. I simply don't have time to sleep at the job and wet the wall down all night. We stuccoed a house in Maryland where the homeowners wet the walls down in the evening, after the brown coat set up enough to wet with a hose. Just using a hose at normal pressure is fine, as long as it doesn't mess up the wall. The walls were wet down every day twice a day for over a week before we put on a finish. There is no doubt wetting the wall down increases the strength dramatially of portland cement. Wetting the wall down prevents dry-outs, and ensures h2o is integrated into the molecules of the cement mortar.
Wetting the wall down in cold weather does more harm than good, particularly when temperatures drop below freezing at night. Water doesn't evaporate when it is cold, so there is no need.
Wetting the wall daily after the finish is done can mess up the finish color and is a waste of time. Your paint can fail if the wall has a high moisture content.
I don't know why someone would wash the stucco when it is freshly done.
