Sheetrock first or stucco first ? ?
I am constructing a wood frame house and I have heard that some people install the sheet rock before the stucco is placed out side. Should the stucco be done first or the sheet rock ?
It is better to do the sheetrock first. Heavy stacks of sheetrock against the wall can cause the framing to bow and crack the stucco. A 30 sheet hack of 1/2" sheet rock weighs over 3,000 pounds. Also, all the beating and banging can crack the stucco.
It main not be convenient to do things in that order. If you do the drywall after the stucco, you'll want to stack the boards against the partition walls and not the outside walls with the stucco.
If the walls are leaking it may be necessary to put on tar paper or housewrap before the sheetrock. Bear in mind, if the house is leaking bad before the stucco is done, they will be leaking after the stucco is done.
