More bad work

What kind of stucco has little white fibers in it? It is some kind of single coat system, (well there is a top coat but it is just texture, it is painted, not a color coat). I was having a house built, this crap they put up had hundreds of cracks in it, and after two weeks the stuff started falling off of the house, its not even bonding to the 'chicken wire'. After further inspection I found several places on the home that were (are) well under the 3/8" required by the local building inspector. I had spoke with the supervisor and he admitted to seeing only half of the cracks. The builder wanted me to hurry up and close on the house and said they would then come back and do any repairs. I didn't want that and went and marked with paint on the house where the cracks and holes are. I really made them mad and now they are saying that I did all the damage with a hammer, that is completely untrue! I know I should not have marked on the house with paint to highlight all the problems but I know they were trying to screw me over! The builder called me up after seeing the paint and was swearing at me and 'forbid' me to go on any of their properties, also said at that time he was going to send me back my deposits. I heard from a friend that lives near that house that they are bad mouthing me and now are saying they are keeping my deposits because of the damage I did. I feel I did no actual damage, the places I put paint should be fixed, actually that stuff should be torn off and redone. I know I should not have put paint on that house, but I know I was headed for a major screwing. I want to find out what kind of stucco they were using, they claim it's regular stucco, but I don't believe it, I want to know so I don't use another builder that uses that stuff.

What you have there is called one-coat stucco, where conventional stucco is usually called three coat stucco.

One coat stucco is widely used here in Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC area, and people call it real stucco, and it really isn't. One coat stucco basecoat comes in a bag marked "one coat stucco". It is a mixture of cement that sets fast and fibers. Sometimes, One Coat stucco is mixed with sand already.

I am not saying I'll never work with one coat, but I never have. Sometimes it is called "hard coat" stucco.

One coat stucco has a thin basecoat usually 1/4"-3/8". It is then covered with a synthetic finish, which is a rubbery paint with silica sand or plastic particles (fake sand).

This shouldn't be crumbling and falling off the wall. This was done by incompetent people.

You are right to stand up to these crooks. Marking the wall with paint highlights the holes and cracks. This work obviously needs to be torn off and re-done.

It seems you need to take legal action. These thieves aren't going to make it right.
