Comments about synthetic
I agree with the 1850's house should not get synthetic ! I'm a 1 man gang if the situation permits !I prefer to do only hard coat stucco ! wire lath and type s mortar ! but i'm not opposed to putting synthetic finish on the hard coat ! And have actually had VERY GOOD results ! I enjoy applying a skip trowel texture finish and didn't notice any on your site ! This is probably gonna rub u the wrong way but i have done a number of skip trowel textures with synthetic also ! Y ou atleast gotta admit the moisture resisting qualities of the synthetic are great ! I'm no amateur crutching on synthetics 1 i've done many houses with a sponge float or slick masonry finish ! Here in GA they really want the syn finish and me i just wanna spread mud and eat ya know ? so is the work still steady where you live ??? thanks and keep up the good work !
As I mentioned last issue, we're using synthetics more and more. We use them for deep colors and to duplicate EIFS and one coat stucco.
Someone called me to look at a historic mansion. The house was recoated about 10 years ago with EIFS cloth and EIFS basecoat. The basecoat and finish was bubbling up and coming loose. This stuff was made for strofoam, not painted stucco. This synthetic completely ruined the historic appearance. I wonder how can anybody devalue the historic authenticity of an historic Virginia mansion like Llangollen covering the stucco with this garbage. Not to mention it is peeling off.
