5 year old houses have rusty and leaking gas pipes:
This came from a list serve near me.
Hi,
I feel this needs to be posted to make everyone aware around the clover hill community. We started smelling small whiffs of gas around our utility room for maybe the last six months and had our furnace company out for annual maintenance. Needless to say, they identified a gas leak that started right at the entry point of our gas line coming into the house.s.
So we called the plumbers as well to find and fix the exact problem we shut off the gas coming into the house and once the plumber arrived we found the pipe going into the house was corroded to the extent that it was leaking. The pipe apparently wasn’t properly prepared to go through the wall and has probably been rusting for years.

With all of the fires and explosions and no clear explanation from the media, I figured I’d share what we found and it may be worthwhile to have people look at their incoming gas lines to make sure they don’t experience this. The damage wasn’t found until a gas detector was used and the pipe was pulled from the wall that made it clear of the problem.
Attached is the pipe and a couple of different views. As the pictures show the corrosion that was visible after we pulled the silicone and plumbers putty away from the siding and behold found the corrosion.
Please have someone check the incoming pipe that feeds your house from the meter to make sure you are safe and the pipe isn’t corroding.
The extent of the corrosion was severe and may be why one of the houses near us went up in flames when they were on vacation. Our was built in 2021 so be aware this is a possibility…
